“I would like to thank actress Sharon Stone for her support of free speech and her criticism of the Cancel Culture,” said Ruth Institute President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D.
In a recent interview, Stone said, “I think the cancel culture is the stupidest thing I have ever seen happen. I think when people say things that they feel and mean and it’s offensive to you, it’s a brilliant opportunity for everyone to learn and grow and understand each other.”
Morse responded: “There are probably very few issues where the Ruth Institute agrees with Stone, who endorsed Biden in the last election. But she does understand that there’s nothing to be learned by shutting down your opponents. A healthy debate furthers the search for truth. The Cancel Culture erects a wall between opposing sides of any issue. The Ruth Institute and other pro-family organizations have been on the receiving end of this for a long time. We are glad to have Hollywood liberals like Sharon Stone as allies on this important issue.
“We feel so strongly about this that the Ruth Institute now has a Propaganda and Censorship Research Center to help fight censorship by big tech, big media and big government,” Morse disclosed.
Resources available at the Center include research like “How Unbiased are Fact Checkers,” a talk with James D. Agresti, president of Just Facts.
There’s also media like “Removed Book! A Talk with Brian Camenker, author of The Health Hazards of Homosexuality,” which was censored by Amazon.
And there are articles such as “Pepe Le Pew or Hugh Hefner: who normalized the rape culture?”
Morse explained: “A free society thrives on the free exchange of ideas. The Cancel Culture uses what it calls ‘hate’ to avoid a discussion of positions it has a hard time defending. It seems to be saying: ‘Don’t ask questions. Don’t challenge us. Just accept our word as law and shut up.’ I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sharon Stone for her fair-minded statement.”
